OFFICERS-01: 2012 Dues and Retention
Submitted by: Alfred H Singleman Jr
on 8/4/2011
---------------------------------------------------------
Shipmates,
It's time to start our 2012 dues
renewal and retention program. Last year we had 2600 members
who were DINK on December 31st and about 750 members out of
the 2600 who did not renew or dropped out of USSVI. We all
have to do a better job at retention and try to get these
numbers down this year. Why? First, it's a financial issue. The
more members you retain the more money in your treasury. Second, you need to keep your present members to continue
your Base projects and expand your Base.
How can you retain your members? I
have found the best way is to call them and ask them to
renew. You could use the Sea Daddy Program for this. Split
the base listing between groups of members and give everyone
a call and update them on the base, say hello and find out
how they are doing. You may have to do this several times to
get most of them to renew. It takes a little work, but the
personal touch works better than e-mails.
Also while you are entering your dues
updates please check to see that all your Associate members
have a sponsor listed for them. If they do not have a
sponsor and you forgot who did sponsor the Associate member,
you can enter the Base name as the sponsor. Do not forget
that only Regular members can sponsor (ONE) Non-family
Associate member. The Base can sponsor x number of members.

TEMECULA PARADE. Trieste Base
participated in the Temecula 4th of July parade. There were
about 60 parade entries of all kinds, but only 1 submarine.
Trieste Base got a very loud and vocal welcome all along the
parade route. The route ran from the Stampede parking
lot on the west side of Front Street on the south side of
town, and proceeded north on Front Street to Moreno road, in
front of the Post Office. Our Trieste Base float won 1st
prize in the Special Float category, our first parade award.
A couple of our members had a nice chat with Congressman
Darrell Issa who was a participant in the parade along with the
Temecula and Murrieta city councils.

52 BOATS MEMORIAL DEDICATION.
On March 25, 2010 the 52 Boats Memorial was dedicated in San
Diego. The design of the memorial includes a planting
of 52 American Liberty Elm trees, one for each of the lost
boats. The trees line broad sidewalks that flank the plaza
on two sides leading down to the waters edge. In front of
each tree is a black granite monument laser etched with the
name and picture of one of the lost boats, the circumstances
of the boat's loss and the names of all the men who were
lost with the boat. The San Diego chapter of the U.S.
Submarine Veterans of World War II is spearheaded the 52
Boats Memorial project.

2009 MURRIETA VETERANS DAY PARADE.
Murrieta will hold it's annual Veterans Day parade on
Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Those that attended this
event last year will attest to the fact that this by far was
the best parade of the year. For a "small" town it
puts on a great parade. After the parade this year
will be the ground breaking for the new Veterans Memorial.
So please think about joining your shipmates and
participating in the premier parade of the year.
It will even be better this year. Let our Base
Commander know if you plan to participate.
